Celtic Yule Log Cake

I love making different cakes than the normal birthday cakes.  This is the second yule log cake I've made for my friend, and I love it!  The berries are modeling chocolate and the leaves and Celtic knots are gum paste.  Then just lots of yummy frosting!  Welcome Winter Solstice!  And on such a yummy note!

TV show 'Psych' pineapple birthday cake

Have you ever seen the TV show 'Psych?'  Well, my friend LOVES it!  (So do my kids and sister!)  So if you've seen the show you'll understand this cake!  It was very fun to make.
Fresh lemon gluten free pound cake with lemon curd and lemon butter cream frosting covered in modeling chocolate and fondant.  It's all edible.  The leaves are modeling chocolate.

Happy happy birthday, Tiffany!  We love you!

Spanish Lace, GIANT red bow birthday cake

My daughter's friend LOVED the Spanish Lace wedding cake I did back in May, so she wanted something similar for her birthday cake.  (I know, lucky girl!)  We'd already done the makeup thing for her, so she wanted a red bow.  The stripes I think were my favorite, aside from the bow.  Really, it was a very fun cake to make for a very fun girl!
Happy Birthday, Brynlee!!!

Lego Ninjago Birthday Cake

My little boy finally got his birthday party!!!  He loves the Lego Nijago sets, so here we are.  A Lego cake for a sweet boy!  It's all edible even down to the ties of the ninja mask and the sword.  The actual cake part wasn't quite like I wanted it, but it was still fun.

The Lego man and black piece were made of rice krispie treats then covered in frosting and either gum paste or modeling chocolate.  The cake was strawberry chocolate chip with dark chocolate frosting, then covered in fondant.  The white Lego pieces were fondant.

We made swords and 'sushi' for the party.  It was kind of a small party, which was perfect since I just wasn't up to a big party.  Too much going on this last week to do anything else.  Love you, my son!  Happy birthday!!!!

Mickey Mouse 1st Birthday Cake

I always love doing cakes for close family and friends!  This cake was very special for me to make.  Our dear friends' little boy turned one and I couldn't have been happier for them!  Little Mason is such an adorable little guy, and we all love him so much.  He was a little spoiled with his party, but well deserved, I think!  His mommy did a fabulous job!  And what a fun theme and color scheme!!!
 Happy Birthday, Mason!!!

Everything was edible, even down to Mickey's ears!!!  (And on a side note, I made that cake tower with pieces I got at the DI.  Only spent $4!!!)

Acoustic guitar cupcakes

My little brother had his birthday and just happened to be at our house to celebrate with us.  He recently got a new acoustic guitar, thus the cake.  It was kind of last minute, but since I had all the stuff out and I'd already made tons of guitars, what was one more?!  The picks on the cupcakes were my brilliant sister's idea.  They would have been flatter if I'd been more patient and let them dry out before putting them on the cupcakes, but oh well.  You get the idea!

I've been kind of sick of plain chocolate cake, but that's what my kids wanted.  So, I spiced them up a bit with pumpkin instead of oil, and cinnamon and nutmeg.  The frosting was a pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting.  Quite tasty in the end!
Happy birthday Neil!!!

Rock and Roll birthday cupcakes

What a lucky birthday boy to get these!  He got a drum set from his parents, so the theme was 'rock and roll,' thus the cupcakes.  Little electric guitars and drum sets.  I loved the red and black theme.  My kids even helped me decorate this time.  It was so much fun for all of us!
Fresh lemon cupcakes with fresh lemon butter cream frosting.  SOOOOO tasty!!!

All edible toppers.  The guitars and stars were all gum paste.
The drums were modeling chocolate and gum paste and the cymbals were on toothpicks painted with edible silver spray paint!

'Jem' birthday cake

Does any one remember the TV show "Jem?"  Well, I do, and so does the birthday girl who got this as a surprise on her birthday!!  Zebra stripes, stars, pink, pink electric guitars!!  What more could a girl want, right?  Happy Birthday, Christal!  I'm glad you got a little spoiled on your big 3-0 birthday!!!

It's all edible except the wires holding up the stars!!!

Back-to-School apple cupcakes

Okay, so, my baby was pretty sick the last week and a half or so, so when my kids decided to have a back-to-school party and wanted a 'cake' I just didn't have the time to do anything too involved.  These didn't turn out quite like I wanted them, and they ended up being a lot of work anyway, but the kids DEVOURED them, so I guess they were worth it!
Apple spice cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.  They were SOOOO yummy!  Red sprinkles, tootsie roll stems and modeling chocolate leaves.  Really fun for the kids.
Kinda cute, huh?

Army Retirement Cake

Well, I was going to take a break from cakes, but when my friend asked if I could do an Army retirement cake for her husband, I couldn't say no.  The soldiers of our country are what make America what it is today!  I love this country, and I love what the soldiers stand for.  Freedom, honor, strength, family.  Thank you, soldiers of America!!!!  I love living in this country!!!

Jeep Rock Climbing Birthday Cake

This picture shows the picture I was basing this cake on.  Pretty impressive in itself!  My friend's husband got this picture in a calendar and wanted to surprise him with a cake made to look like his impressive skills.
I have to say, it was really fun doing this.  No fondant, just the cake built up then frosting and cinnamon and food coloring for the rocks.  The Jeep is cocoa pepples treat with modeling chocolate.
Notice the 'dirt' on the wheels?  Very fun cake that was a hit at the birthday party!  Happy Birthday, Max!

16 Candles "They Say It's Your Birthday" Birthday Cake

Okay, I'll admit I had to rent the movie and watch the scene to get a good sense of what I needed to do for this cake.  I'm very visual, and I couldn't find any pictures for this cake, so the car wasn't quite like I wanted it, but it still turned out pretty fun.
And, I'm still not very good at people, thus the cute little smiley faces.  But, the actual cake?  HEAVEN!  Lemon cake, with lemon butter cream frosting and lemon curd filling!  And, gluten free.  SO yummy!!!

Spanish Lace Wedding Cake

This is a wedding cake I did for a friend's daughter.  When I first saw what the bride wanted I was kind of afraid I wouldn't be able to do it, but wow, it was such a joy to make this cake!  The black was all piped on with a mixture of butter cream frosting and decorators gel.  I used pictures to look at while piping so I got it just right.  Really, this was my favorite cake ever!

Legend of Zelda, Shield and Sword cake

My sweet son just wanted a Legend of Zelda Cake for his birthday.  I did one last year for my older son that he wanted, but I just didn't want to go to all that work.  Well, this was a lot of work too, but a little funner.  He LOVED it!  And that's what makes my day.  Very fun for all of us.

And this was the inside!  Lemon cake, cheesecake, lemon curd, more lemon cake, and lemon butter cream frosting.  All gluten free.  The most delicious cake on the planet!

Superhero Jewelry Birthday Cake

My daughter wanted an Avenger's cake, but with Batman included.  Well, I wanted a girly cake, and she ultimately did too.  So, this is what happened.  Jewelry boxes, with Hero accents.
Notice the Batman shoe, and the Iron Man jeweled ring.
And here are the Thor hammer bracelet, Hulk ring, and Captain America bracelet.  It really turned out fun.  All the accents are done with Gum paste, which I normally hate using, but for this it just worked better.  Still learning on the shoe and jewelry, but we'll get there.

A family reunion Sheet Cake

A simple sheet cake for a family reunion.  Gluten free chocolate cake with raspberry filling.  So tasty!!  Modeling chocolate banner and balloons.

T-Rex Birthday Cake

What could be better for a 4-year-old's birthday than a scary looking T-Rex popping out of his birthday cake?  My poor 2 year old kept saying, "dinosaur scary,' in her cute little voice.  What a fun cake, though!  I really like doing different cakes.  Even the boy cakes are so fun for me!

The head is cake with rice krispies molded around it to get the shape.  The claws (I know, they're really too big) are rice krispie treats as well, covered in modeling chocolate and 'painted' with coloring gels.  Cake is just chocolate frosting, green frosting, crushed Oreos and rock candy.

Ice Cream Sundae Birthday Cake

Okay, this cake takes the cake! (Sorry, had to do it!) :) THIS WAS SO FUN FOR ME!!!! The request was an ice cream sundae. What a great idea!! The scoops are giant cake balls covered in different flavored frosting. I just LOVED this cake!!! Happy Birthday, Abbey!!!

Vanilla with strawberry topping, chocolate with strawberry topping, caramel swirl with caramel topping, mint chocolate chip with 'hot fudge,' and strawberry ice cream with hot fudge. Whipped cream, bananas and a cherry on top!!! Perfect!

Minnie Mouse and Figaro Cake

This was my baby girl's birthday cake! She LOVES Minnie Mouse and kitties, so this was perfect. I had grand plans of making a pillow shaped cake with Minnie and Figaro sitting on top, but I ran out of time. She loved what I ended up with and that's all that matters!

Yo Gabba Gabba Birthday Cake

Yo Gabba Gabba is something I'd never heard of before this cake request. It was a really fun cake to make, though. Everything is edible! Rice krispie treats covered in modeling chocolate or fondant. It was SOOOO fun seeing the birthday girl's response to the cake! She came running in my house looking for her birthday cake. She's so deserving of a great cake!
Happy Birthday, Erika!!

Black and Gold Masquerade Cake

Okay, so I went a little overboard with this one. I've been DYING to do a masquerade party for one of my girls, but it took this long for one of them to finally decide to do one. We'll be making masks, the guests are dressing up, it will be fantastic. But, the cake? Yes, I LOVED making this one! The mask is edible, as is everything else other than the feathers!

The invitations. Yes, I had fun with them as well!
Mask!
Full cake. This was so fun. It turned out a little different than I wanted, but quite pretty anyway. My girls LOVE it!

Beautiful ball gown barbie!

This dress was so fun to do! My daughter helped me with the dress idea and hair.
Notice the ice cream cones? Cake balls! The chocolate on the 'ice cream' is ganache!
Cake pops made to look like scoops of ice cream. Don't you love the gum balls? They were provided by the hostess. Such a great idea!!!
